Sofitel entrusts its teams to Cordelia de Castellane and reinvents French elegance

By Raphaël Simon | Monday 23 February 2026

There are moments when luxury hospitality ceases to be a simple matter of marble and thread count. Where it slips into the folds of a skirt, the drape of a jacket, the way a collar is perfectly cut. That moment has arrived for Sofitel. And it bears a name: Le Vestiaire. A collection of 45 pieces designed by Cordelia de Castellane, Artistic Director of Dior Maison, which completely reinvents the art of dressing in French luxury hospitality.

Sofitel Le Vestiaire collection Cordelia de Castellane

For sixty years, Sofitel has embodied the promise of French luxury, that unique way of welcoming the world with the nonchalant grace of a Parisian on a Tuesday morning. Founded in Strasbourg in 1964, the first French luxury hotel brand with international reach, the house has carried the French art de vivre to the four corners of the globe. Today, a silent revolution is unfolding, one recognised by its very discretion. Sofitel dresses its 25,000 Heartists as one would build a dream wardrobe.

An Obvious Partnership: When Sofitel Chose Cordelia de Castellane

Cordelia de Castellane is no stranger to the palaces of the French imagination. As Artistic Director of Dior Maison and Baby Dior, she possesses that rare ability to infuse poetry into everyday objects, to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Half-Greek, half-French, raised between Paris and the countryside, she embodies the cultivated cosmopolitanism that forms the beauty of French chic.

When Sofitel entrusted her with the creation of Le Vestiaire, everyone, in the hushed corridors of hospitality as well as in the Parisian ateliers, thought the same thing: it was obvious.

“This collaboration felt very natural to us, as we share the same values: a love of beauty, attention to detail, and a deep respect for craftsmanship and comfort. Together, we have created a wardrobe that reflects Sofitel’s hospitality: warm, refined, and naturally French.”

– Cordelia de Castellane

Neither Uniform, nor Constraint, but a True Wardrobe

First, one must understand what Le Vestiaire is not. It is not a uniform. The word, in Cordelia de Castellane’s mouth, almost seems an offence. The designer conceived her collection as a personal wardrobe that one curates, assembles, and freely appropriates.

45 pieces and a selection of carefully chosen accessories complement, layer, and reinvent themselves according to body types, cultures, and hemispheres. A receptionist at the Sofitel New York can create a different look from a hostess at the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua, while still remaining immediately, undeniably, Sofitel.

“I didn’t want to create uniforms. I wanted to design a wardrobe. The idea is simple: choose a look that corresponds to the location and the role. But above all, I knew I didn’t want to impose a specific uniform.”
– Cordelia de Castellane

The Palette: A Timeless Colour Palette

One does not choose the colours of a wardrobe as one chooses the shades of a façade. Cordelia de Castellane opted for a strikingly intelligent palette: navy blue, coconut milk, beige, denim blue. Timeless. Inclusive. These shades have the rare gift of flattering all complexions, harmonising with all decors, whether gilded in Dubai, snow-covered in Montreal, or bathed in light in Hanoi.

The tailored silhouettes are enhanced by signature accessories: belts and scarf brooches subtly displaying the Cultural Link, Sofitel’s emblematic logo symbolising a bridge between cultures. As for the monogram prints, meticulously hand-drawn by the designer herself, they transform the brand’s visual signature into a distinctive stylistic language, present on scarves, shirts, dresses, and ties.

Key Pieces of Le Vestiaire

The Saharan Jacket · The Absolute Must-Have

A modern reinterpretation of the classic safari jacket, with a fitted waist and a fluid silhouette that oscillates between the city and the open seas. Unisex, functional, infinitely chic, whether at the reception of the Grand Amsterdam or on the sunny terraces of Egypt.

The Iconic Dress · Movement Embodied

Fitted shoulders, a pleated skirt that twirls gracefully. Embellished with the signature belt adorned with the Cultural Link buckle, it alone synthesises the collection’s DNA: chic, modern, effortlessly French.

The Fitted Waistcoat · Everyday Haute Couture

Where sartorial precision meets simplicity of service. Its clean lines and sleeveless version, easily paired with tailored trousers or a midi skirt, make it the most versatile piece in the wardrobe: true luxury is personal.

The Monogram Print · The Hand-Stitched Signature

More than a motif, it is an expression of French elegance. Each delicate, hand-drawn line adds a couture touch to every silhouette. Subtle, timeless, and undeniably Sofitel.

Designed With the Teams, For the Teams

It would be missing an essential dimension to view Le Vestiaire merely as an aesthetic matter. The collection was not created in the abstraction of a Parisian atelier. Cordelia de Castellane immersed herself in fittings with the Sofitel teams; she listened, observed, and adjusted. Over 100 employees in 24 hotels worldwide contributed to the tests, sharing their feedback on every cut, every fabric, and every detail of comfort.

The result speaks for itself. “As a member of the reception team, I’m on my feet all day, and when you’re comfortable in your uniform, you feel more confident. It helps you stay calm, elegant, and welcoming, even during the most intense moments.” · recounts a Heartist from Sofitel New York.

From the concierge who proudly explains the Parisian heritage of their attire to guests, to the receptionist who appreciates “being able to change outfits depending on the day”, everyone can now present themselves with that rare feeling: being dressed, and not uniformed.

Committed Luxury: When Beauty Lasts

True to Sofitel’s “Committed Luxury” philosophy, Le Vestiaire is designed with sustainability in mind, without ever sacrificing its beauty. Each fabric has been selected for its breathability, durability, and ability to be repaired rather than replaced. Timeless cuts, materials that withstand the seasons without faltering, garments designed for longevity as much as for elegance.

Here, sustainability is not a compromise; it is an expression of luxury itself. From the first sketch to the last stitch, every element reflects a modern vision of French craftsmanship, where responsibility and refinement go hand in hand.

Maud Bailly: The Pride of a Renaissance

Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel, Sofitel Legend, MGallery & Emblems, does not hide her pride. And it is not simply the pride of a successful collection; it is that of a renaissance. That of a brand which, after magnificent renovations · including the Sofitel New York and the Sofitel Montréal Golden Mile · and new openings across the world, is fully regaining its sparkle.

“We are entering a period where Sofitel has fully regained its pride. It was essential for me that our teams, who embody the very essence of luxury, could also benefit from this new era of beauty. It seemed perfectly natural to me that they should shine more than ever. I am delighted with this collaboration with Cordelia de Castellane, who has perfectly captured the spirit of a refined and timeless wardrobe, celebrating French elegance and luxury.”
– Maud Bailly, CEO Sofitel

Global Rollout: 120 Hotels, One Elegance

From September 2026, Sofitel’s 25,000 Heartists in 120 hotels worldwide will wear Le Vestiaire. From the Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opéra to the Sofitel London St James, from the Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk to the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, the same elegance will dress radically different cultures, latitudes, and temporalities.

Perhaps this is the collection’s finest achievement: to be universal without ever ceasing to be singular. French elegance as a universal language, declined into local dialects. I love that it’s one collection, yet each hotel can wear it differently.

In Conclusion: The Uniform is Dead, Long Live Le Vestiaire

What Sofitel and Cordelia de Castellane have accomplished together is, in a sense, revolutionary. They confronted a question that luxury hospitality had avoided for too long: why should the people who embody luxury every day be the last to benefit from it in their attire? Le Vestiaire answers this injustice with the only weapon that matters: style.

“Fashion is never neutral. It influences our mood daily. I wanted these pieces to be positive and reassuring, garments that support people emotionally as much as visually, and that reflect the warmth and elegance of Sofitel hospitality.”
– Cordelia de Castellane

A wardrobe that doesn’t say “you work here”. A wardrobe that says: you are Sofitel.
