The site dates back to the 12th century. It housed three convents, Sant’Agata, San Clemente and Santa Lucia di Camporeggi, then the Baroque painter Arcangela Paladini, before serving as a military hospital.

Italian practices RPA and De Vita & Schulze are restoring the historic buildings and adding new architecture. For Cristiano Rinaldi, president of Capella Hotel Group, being entrusted with the revival of this piece of Florentine heritage is a privilege. Details in the official Capella press release.

The hotel will have 56 rooms and 33 suites. The interiors have been entrusted to Liaigre, the Parisian design house known for its clean lines and natural materials.

Alongside the hotel, 10 residences, classic or contemporary, will have their own entrance. Capella has not yet released any floor plans, room sizes or room images: the three official renderings show the entrance, the inner walkway and the winter garden.

One Tuscan restaurant, one Japanese

Two restaurants will share the dining: one Tuscan, the other Japanese, with an omakase counter, the sushi menu left entirely to the chef. Capella has not yet named a chef.

For the evening, a rooftop bar will look out over the city’s rooftops, and a speakeasy-style wine cellar, in the spirit of the hidden bars of the Prohibition era, will be tucked away in the basement. The Living Room, the brand’s signature lounge, will serve as a social hub for guests.

A 600 m² spa inside the Clubhouse

Wellness gets a building of its own, the Clubhouse. It will house the Capella Spa, 600 m² with a hydrotherapy pool, along with a gym and a café.

Setting the spa apart from the rest of the hotel promises a true retreat, away from the rooms and restaurants. Capella has not yet specified the number of treatment rooms or the product brand.

Why build an amphitheatre in a hotel?

A cypress-lined walkway will lead to an indoor amphitheatre. Capella presents it as a tribute to eight centuries of creativity and cultural exchange on the site, from the convents to Arcangela Paladini’s studio.

The brand, which makes local culture one of its hallmarks, has not yet detailed the venue’s programme.

Capella is billing Florence as its European debut; in fact it is a return, as the brand once ran the Breidenbacher Hof in Düsseldorf. The Singapore-based group is mainly present in Asia and Oceania, and is also preparing a Capella in Dubai.

It arrives in a city where the luxury scene is changing fast. The W Florence has moved into the former Grand Hotel Majestic, and Palazzo Sogni opened on 1 October 2026 a stone’s throw from the Duomo.

When will Capella Florence open?

Capella is announcing an opening in 2027, with no specific month. Reservations are not yet open and rates have not been published.

Work on the site, between Via San Gallo and Via Cavour, was still under way in spring 2026.
