Highland Coast Hotels invests one million pounds in four North Coast 500 properties

  • One million pounds sterling invested by Highland Coast Hotels for the autumn-winter 2026 season.
  • Four renovated properties · Kylesku Hotel, Plockton Inn, Lochardil House and Tongue Hotel.
  • A group founded in 2021, established in the north of Scotland along the North Coast 500 and in Wester Ross.
  • Work focused on the bedrooms, carried out off-season so the establishments do not close.

The north of Scotland is upgrading. Highland Coast Hotels is committing one million pounds sterling to renovate four of its addresses, all located on or near the North Coast 500 · the 518-mile driving route that has reshaped tourism in the Highlands since its launch.

Four addresses, one single route

The properties involved are the Kylesku Hotel, perched by a loch facing the bridge of the same name, the Plockton Inn in the village of Plockton, Lochardil House in Inverness, and the Tongue Hotel on the north coast. These four addresses mark out the route rather than being concentrated in a single spot.

Publicité

This has been the group’s logic since its foundation in 2021 · to build a string of stops along a road that has become a destination in its own right, rather than an isolated establishment. Travellers driving the loop can thus string together nights without changing brand.

Bedrooms first

The investment focuses primarily on the bedrooms · bedding, bathrooms, furniture and lighting. The visual approach remains sober, using muted tones that complement the landscape rather than trying to stand out from it. This is about comfort, not a stylistic reinvention.

Publicité

The schedule is intentional: the work takes place in autumn and winter, outside the high season. The establishments remain open, which means tackling the rooms in successive batches.

Why the North Coast 500 is changing the game

Launched in 2015, the loop has transformed the northern Highlands from a region you pass through into a destination. It has also created a new constraint for local hospitality · heavily seasonal demand, concentrated from May to September, with quiet winter months.

Publicité

Investing off-season directly addresses this imbalance. An establishment renovated in January is an establishment ready for the July peak. And upgrading the bedrooms is the most direct lever to lengthen the season, by attracting clientele less dependent on good weather.

Our perspective

One million pounds spread across four properties remains a measured investment · it is not about transforming these houses into luxury establishments, but rather elevating an already cohesive collection up a notch. This is probably the right calibration for this region, where the appeal lies in the landscape and the hospitality rather than the amenities.

Publicité

It is an address to recommend for touring the North Coast 500 without leaving stops to chance · Kylesku Hotel, facing the loch and bridge, is the most spectacularly located of the four. Travellers seeking a single base rather than an itinerary will prefer Lochardil House in Inverness, from which to explore both coasts.
