Nestled on the southern shore of Lake Geneva, opposite Switzerland, Évian-les-Bains combines Belle Époque thermalism, world-class golf, and historic palaces. The town is more than ever in the spotlight since it hosted the G7 summit, with leaders staying in its most renowned hotel. Here’s where to stay in Évian in 2026, from historical palaces to modern lakeside addresses.

Why is Évian So Sought After Right Now?

Évian has just hosted the G7 summit, propelling the spa town and its hotels onto the international stage. This is not a first: the town previously welcomed the G8 in 2003. Beyond current events, Évian captivates year-round as France’s oldest spa town, famous for its mineral water, lakeside promenade, Palais Lumière, and Belle Époque casino. Just 45 minutes from Geneva and a 35-minute boat ride from Lausanne, it is a highly popular lake and mountain getaway for wellness enthusiasts. It perfectly complements our selection of the most beautiful lakeside hotels in Europe.

Which is Évian’s Palace Hotel?

The Hôtel Royal, flagship of the Evian Resort, is Évian’s undisputed palace and the address that accommodated the G7 leaders. Inaugurated in 1909 and named in honour of King Edward VII, this Belle Époque palace set in a 19-hectare park dominates the lake like a white ocean liner. Guests can admire frescoes by Gustave Jaulmes, relax at the evian Spa, and dine at Les Fresques, a Michelin-starred restaurant. A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the Royal also provides access to the Evian Resort Golf Club, host of the Evian Championship, one of the majors on the women’s circuit. Prices start from €450 per night, significantly more in high season · rates that our article on the difference between a palace and a 5-star hotel helps to put into perspective.

Which Hotel for a Spa or Family Stay?

For wellness and families, the Hôtel Ermitage at the Evian Resort is the ideal choice. This country house-style residence, perched higher on the estate with sweeping lake views, is home to the Spa Quatre Terres, voted France’s best wellness retreat, and excellent kids’ clubs for toddlers to teens. Those who appreciate authentic charm will prefer La Verniaz et ses Chalets, a Relais & Châteaux property nestled in a floral garden above Évian, featuring its own chalets, a heated swimming pool, and a seasonal restaurant (double rooms from approximately €130 to €790). Which Modern Hotel is Lakeside?

The Hilton Evian-les-Bains is the best choice for those seeking contemporary comfort right on the water’s edge. Situated on the shore, a five-minute walk from the centre and right next to the ferry terminal for Lausanne, it offers rooms with balconies and lake views, a spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and the Riva restaurant. Rates start around €120 in the low season and climb to approximately €300 in summer · an accessible range for a town of this calibre. What to Do in Évian and When to Visit?

Évian’s rhythm is set by the lake, golf, and thermal wellness, ideally enjoyed from spring to autumn. The agenda includes: the Léman lakeside promenade, the Palais Lumière (former thermal baths from 1902 now a cultural centre), the Cachat spring, the casino, and, of course, a boat trip to Lausanne on the Swiss shore. Golfers will aim for the Evian Championship in July, which brings together the world’s elite. In winter, the proximity to Haute-Savoie resorts allows for a combination of lake and snow · in the same alpine spirit, see our article on the Bürgenstock Hotel, a Swiss palace above a lake.

Good to Know Before Booking

Évian’s hotels quickly sell out during the golf championship, in summer, and for major events · book early. Standard times are check-in at 3 pm and check-out at 12 pm. Remember to specify “lake view room” when booking, as not all rooms overlook Lake Geneva, and check what the rate includes (spa access, breakfast). To understand hotel star ratings, our guide on how hotel stars are awarded in France clarifies the system.
