- 1 Hotel Tokyo opened in March 2026 on the upper floors of the Akasaka Trust Tower: it’s the first Japanese address for the American brand 1 Hotels.
- 211 rooms, including 24 suites and 3 penthouses, signature biophilic design, and a spectacular indoor pool.
- The goal: to establish sustainable luxury in the heart of Asia’s most demanding capital.
Tokyo delivered on its most anticipated spring opening: 1 Hotel Tokyo, the first Japanese venture for the New York-based sustainable luxury brand, has taken up residence on the upper floors of the Akasaka Trust Tower. A manifesto of nature in the city, just minutes from Akasaka Palace.
Nature on High Floors
The 1 Hotels signature is applied here: biophilic design, raw wood, stone, linen, and omnipresent greenery that softens Tokyo’s verticality. The 211 rooms and suites exude serenity, with plunging city views and, on clear days, vistas stretching to the surrounding landscape. At the top, 24 suites and 3 penthouses elevate the experience to the level of the capital’s finest addresses.

Pool, Dining, and Well-being
The hotel’s centrepiece, the indoor pool, unfurls its dark waters within an oasis of plants and stone, offering one of the city’s most beautiful aquatic views. For dining, the establishment focuses on seasonal cuisine where vegetables take centre stage, embodying the brand’s cherished farm-to-table ethos, with the restaurant NiNi leading the way.

Sustainable Luxury, a Strong Argument in Japan
Recycled or reclaimed materials, water and energy conservation, banning single-use plastics: sustainability is an identity here, not a marketing ploy. In a Japanese market where service is already an art form, it is this environmental consciousness that sets the newcomer apart from its neighbours Aman, Bulgari, or Janu.

Our View
The arrival of 1 Hotels in Tokyo confirms the growing momentum of environmentally conscious luxury in Asia. Facing the capital’s classic palaces, the establishment plays a card that no one else was really occupying: that of the urban natural sanctuary. The timing is clever, the execution meticulous · it remains to convince a Japanese clientele deeply loyal to its historic establishments.
