The Luxury Collection resort to open in Marseillan in 2029, a first for France

In brief

  • Where: Marseillan, Languedoc, France
  • Opening: Scheduled for 2029
  • Rooms: 72 rooms and 189 branded residences
  • Signature: First The Luxury Collection residential project in France
  • Design: Slowlife Architects and Lázaro Rosa-Violán

The luxury hotel landscape in France is set to undergo a major transformation in the South of the country. Marriott International reached a historic milestone this summer by confirming its presence in the Hérault region through a project of rare scale. On 9 July 2026, the global hospitality giant formalised the signing of a strategic agreement with developer Propriétés & Co to create The Luxury Collection Resort & Residences in Marseillan. This announcement marks not only the arrival of the prestigious brand in Languedoc, but above all the launch of the group’s very first branded residences on French soil.

This monumental project, scheduled to open in 2029, is part of a drive to redefine the codes of Mediterranean holidaying. Far from the sometimes saturated bustle of the Côte d’Azur, Marriott has chosen the authentic and preserved setting of the Thau lagoon for this future flagship. On a site of over six hectares at the water’s edge, the complex aims to become a destination in its own right, merging the exclusivity of a five-star hotel with the intimacy of high-end private residences.

A strategic location on the Thau lagoon

The choice of Marseillan is no coincidence. This picturesque village, famous for its port and its unbreakable link with shellfish farming, offers an environment of exceptional natural richness. The future resort will benefit from a dominant position on the Thau lagoon, offering breathtaking panoramas of Mont Saint-Clair, the town of Sète and the marine horizon. Marriott International has thus formalised the development of a site that enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year, at the heart of a protected ecosystem of 8,000 hectares.

The project has been designed as an organic extension of the existing village, respecting the topography and the soul of the location. The proximity to Montpellier-Méditerranée airport, located just 35 minutes away, as well as direct access to sandy beaches and 50 kilometres of surrounding cycle paths, position this establishment as a future benchmark for an international clientele seeking disconnection and discreet luxury.

Architecture: a reinterpretation of Languedoc heritage

To bring this vision to life, Marriott and Propriétés & Co have called upon the firm Slowlife Architects, in close collaboration with world-renowned interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. The architectural aesthetic is directly inspired by the region’s traditional winegrowers’ houses, reinterpreting stone facades and terracotta hues. Stone facades, finely crafted wooden shutters and terracotta tones will dominate the complex, creating visual harmony with the surrounding landscape.

Inside, the luxury will be contemporary yet deeply rooted in local craftsmanship. The use of noble materials and the promotion of regional expertise will create an atmosphere that is both sophisticated and warm. Lázaro Rosa-Violán, accustomed to the most prestigious hotel projects, has the mission of translating the elegance inherent to The Luxury Collection while celebrating the Mediterranean identity. Each space, from the public areas to the private suites, will be bathed in the unique light of the coastline.

An unprecedented residential and hotel offering

The complex will be distinguished by the duality of its offering. On one side, a 72-room hotel will offer all the standards of international luxury hospitality. On the other, an exclusive collection of 189 branded residences will complete the estate. These homes will range from exclusive lagoon-side villas to garden suites, apartments and prestigious penthouses.

The major innovation lies in the concept of “branded residences”, which is still relatively undeveloped in France. Owners will benefit from privileged access to all the resort’s infrastructure and services, including concierge, maintenance and on-demand hotel experiences. This hybridisation of private ownership and elite hotel service meets a growing demand from high-net-worth travellers wishing to invest in exceptional locations while ensuring an optimal level of comfort and security.

Gastronomy and well-being: epicureanism at the heart of the project

The gastronomic component promises to be one of the major pillars of the Marseillan experience. The resort will host no fewer than nine distinct dining areas, each with its own identity. Seafood lovers can gather at an oyster and sashimi bar, a direct tribute to the local production of the Thau lagoon. A signature gourmet restaurant, a traditional French café and a bar with a terrace nestled in the heart of the vineyard will complete this varied culinary offering.

Well-being will not be overlooked, with the creation of a 2,000 m² spa and wellness centre. Inspired by the heritage of Roman baths, this space will offer complete treatment paths, several swimming pools and state-of-the-art relaxation areas. The project also includes the integration of an art gallery and exclusive boutiques, reinforcing the resort’s cultural and lifestyle dimension. The idea is to offer total immersion in the Mediterranean art of living, where every moment of the day finds its ideal setting.

Marriott’s strategic expansion in France

This signing in July 2026 confirms Marriott International’s growth momentum in the luxury segment in Europe. As Alexandra Goguet, Vice President of Development for France and Benelux, pointed out, this project strengthens the brand’s presence in one of the country’s most attractive leisure destinations. When it opens in 2029, the Marseillan establishment will become the fourth The Luxury Collection hotel in France and the first to offer branded residences.

« The Luxury Collection is distinguished by exceptional hotels that open the doors to authentic destinations, and Marseillan offers a remarkable balance between natural beauty, cultural richness and the Mediterranean art of living. »

Our take

The Marseillan project marks a decisive turning point for the hotel market in the South of France. By choosing Languedoc over Provence or the Côte d’Azur, Marriott International is betting on a new form of luxury: that of space, authenticity and a privileged relationship with nature. The introduction of the first The Luxury Collection residences in France also testifies to the maturity of the prestige real estate market. This resort could well be the catalyst that definitively transforms the international perception of the Thau lagoon, elevating it to the rank of a must-visit destination for the travelling elite.
