◆ May 2026 · Principality of Monaco · Official ranking
Our chic and premium ranking of the five best hotels in the Principality of Monaco in 2026, selected according to a strict criterion: an indoor pool or indoor spa is mandatory. From the iconic palace on the Casino Square to the Mediterranean seafront resort, from the Belle Époque to the Carré d’Or, here is our top 5, complete with rankings and the best value-for-money picks.
With its 30 classified hotels across 2 km², the Principality of Monaco concentrates one of the highest densities of upscale hotels in the world. The Société des Bains de Mer (SBM, founded 1863) controls the majority of them · Hôtel de Paris, Hermitage, Monte-Carlo Bay · sharing the stage with iconic independents such as the Métropole and the Fairmont Monte Carlo.
For this official La Revue Des Hôtels 2026 ranking, we applied a discriminating technical criterion: each property must offer an indoor pool or indoor spa. Serious wellness is an integral part of the luxury experience today; hotels lacking such facilities were excluded. Beyond this filter, we weighted four criteria: dining quality (Michelin stars, signature chef), service excellence, heritage credentials and, for the last entry in the ranking, value for money.

Opened in 1864 and reopened in 2018 after four years of works and a €280 M investment, the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo remains, nearly 160 years later, the absolute reference for the European palace. On the Casino Square, facing the Casino de Monte-Carlo, 207 rooms and suites benefit from SBM’s signature service (bicorne-hatted bellboys, surgical concierge, acrobatic valet), from the three Michelin stars of Louis XV–Alain Ducasse (held since 1990), and from direct access to the Thermes Marins de Monte-Carlo (12,000 m², indoor seawater pool). Renovation architect: Richard Martinet · interior design Bruno Moinard.

- Carré Or Suite: €6,000 to €9,000 per night during the Grand Prix.
A short walk from the Casino Square but already within the residential Carré d’Or, the Métropole is the stylistic antithesis of its neighbouring SBM palaces: maximalist décor by Jacques Garcia (velvet, Murano chandeliers, palms, a garnet-and-gold palette), a unique Mediterranean interior garden in Monaco, and a deliberately intimate format of 126 rooms and suites. The Spa Métropole by Guerlain features a heated indoor pool, and two Michelin-starred restaurants share the house: Yoshi (Japanese, Michelin star since 2010) and Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac (Michelin star). Member of Leading Hotels of the World.
- ◆Signature Jacques Garcia décor · unique Mediterranean interior garden
- ◆Spa Métropole by Guerlain · heated indoor pool

Why #2: a more intimate atmosphere than the SBM palaces, unparalleled Garcia design, a full-scale Guerlain spa and two Michelin stars under one roof. Our Carré d’Or favourite.

A direct neighbour of the Hôtel de Paris on Casino Square, the Hermitage has cultivated its Belle Époque identity since 1900, centred on the winter garden skylight designed by Gustave Eiffel (1899, listed historic monument). The pink Belle Époque facade is classified, and half the rooms look out over Monaco harbour (upper floors are strongly recommended). The Pavyllon Monte-Carlo by Yannick Alléno restaurant, perched on the rooftop, offers Michelin-starred Mediterranean cuisine. Access to the Thermes Marins de Monte-Carlo (12,000 m²) is included, shared with the Hôtel de Paris. A more discreet atmosphere, rates approximately 30% lower.
- ◆Winter garden skylight by Gustave Eiffel (1899, listed historic monument)

- ◆Le Vistamar (★ Michelin) · panoramic brasserie over the Monaco bay
- ◆277 rooms and suites · harbour or Casino views
- ◆30% cheaper than the Hôtel de Paris for an equivalent standard
Why #3: the same SBM service quality as the Hôtel de Paris, full access to the Thermes Marins, and a slightly more understated atmosphere. The smart alternative for connoisseurs.

Step away from the Carré d’Or and into resort mode: this is the unique promise of the Monte-Carlo Bay, perched on Pointe Saint-Roman a 10-minute shuttle ride from the Casino. Its signature: a 4,000 m² sandy lagoon-pool heated year-round, Monaco’s only private beach. All 334 rooms and suites feature a balcony with sea or garden views; the contemporary building houses a Cinq Mondes Spa and the BLue Bay restaurant by chef Marcel Ravin (two Michelin stars), offering creative Caribbean-Mediterranean cuisine. Rates approximately 40% lower than the neighbouring SBM palaces, family-friendly atmosphere.

Fairmont Monte Carlo
The accessible Grand Prix icon
La Revue score
8.8/10

◆ Average rates (standard room)
- Low season
- from €350 per night (Nov.–Mar., excl. holidays)
- High season
- around €750 per night (Jun.–Aug., Yacht Show September)
- F1 Grand Prix
- €1,200 minimum (standard room, Grand Prix week)
- Premium suites
- Diamond rooftop suite: €3,500 to €5,500 per night during the Grand Prix.
The youngest of the five (1975, modernist design without Belle Époque heritage), the Fairmont compensates with a spectacular position on the Monaco Grand Prix circuit: the legendary Loews hairpin passes directly in front of the hotel each May. The year-round heated rooftop pool delivers a 180° view over the bay. 596 rooms with balconies, Nobu Monte Carlo restaurant (Japanese-Peruvian signature), a full indoor Willow Stream Spa and a private casino on the 5th floor. The decisive argument: rates often half those of the neighbouring Hôtel de Paris, with healthy availability year-round.
- ◆Heated rooftop pool year-round · 180° bay view
- ◆Willow Stream Spa indoor · pool + hammam + sauna
- ◆Nobu Monte Carlo · Japanese-Peruvian signature cuisine
- ◆596 rooms with balcony · on the F1 Grand Prix circuit
- ◆Rates often half those of the neighbouring Hôtel de Paris
Why #5: it does not compete in the heritage court of the SBM palaces, but delivers comparable services and location at a significantly more accessible price. Ideal for experiencing Monaco without paying the heritage palace premium.
