Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey: The 5-Star Greek Resort at the Heart of Filming (and the Price of a Night)

Last updated:
In brief
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is released on July 17, 2026 · part of the filming took place in Messenia, in the Greek Peloponnese, around the Costa Navarino destination.
Costa Navarino brings together four 5-star resorts (The Romanos, The Westin, W, Mandarin Oriental) a few minutes from the film’s actual sets, including Voidokilia beach.
For the release, the resort is launching a collection of experiences inspired by Homer’s Odyssey · expect to pay from around €300 per night to stay in the region.

« Set-jetting » · the art of travelling to the filming locations of your favourite films and series · has become one of the major drivers of luxury tourism. After the White Lotus effect, it’s time for Homer. The most anticipated film of the summer, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, is released on July 17, 2026, with part of it filmed in the Greek Peloponnese. And at the heart of this wild Messenia lies a resort where, from today, you can sleep just a stone’s throw from the filming locations.

The Event Film of Summer 2026

An adaptation of Homer’s poem, The Odyssey features an extraordinary cast alongside Matt Damon as Ulysses: Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o, directed by Christopher Nolan. The worldwide release is set for July 17, 2026, preceded by a premiere in London on July 6. Part of the filming took place in the spring of 2025 in Messenia, in the southern Peloponnese, where legend places the kingdom of Nestor.

A Resort Set Against Real Locations

Costa Navarino is not a hotel but a 5-star destination comprising four luxury establishments: The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, the W Costa Navarino, and the Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino. The complex unfolds facing the Ionian Sea, a few minutes from Voidokilia beach · this omega-shaped lagoon, ranked among the most beautiful in Europe · and Nestor’s Cave, which are said to have been used for filming the Cyclops Polyphemus sequence. Methoni Castle and Navarino Bay, other locations in the region, complete this area where myth and cinema overlap with the landscape.

Relive The Odyssey, Experience by Experience

Rather than being overwhelmed by curious visitors, the resort has chosen to turn it into a programme. To accompany the film’s release, Costa Navarino is launching a collection of experiences inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. On the menu: the Messinian Odyssey Trail, a multi-stage game between Nestor’s Palace, Voidokilia, and the cave of the same name, punctuated by riddles; Nestor’s Feast, a seven-course dinner recreating the hospitality of ancient Greece; a spa ritual called The Odyssean Journey; as well as weaving workshops in the style of Penelope and mythology programmes for children. Enough to extend the film far beyond the cinema.

How Much Does a Night Cost?

The question of budget remains. Staying in the Costa Navarino region starts at around €300 to €400 per night outside of high season, for example at The Westin or The Romanos, with prices rising significantly in peak summer and for higher room categories. The Mandarin Oriental, the latest addition and the most exclusive of the four, operates at a higher price point with its suites and villas overlooking the sea. It’s best to book early: Summer 2026, boosted by the film, promises to be particularly busy.

Between Homeric landscapes, a luxury resort, and a global film, Costa Navarino may have pulled off the best coup of the summer. And for travellers, a rare opportunity to literally walk in Ulysses’ footsteps.
